I just got home from an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon to check out my knee. I bruised it stepping off the bottom step of a flight of stairs 3-4 days before I was due back from a sprained foot injury. I refused to accept that I had injured myself again because I have only been healthy for 5 months the past 2 years. I trained for several days on my injured knee before taking time off. So I aggravated my injury more because I did not take the time to rest. So today I had the doctor's appt to find out the damage. My doctor did an ultrasound on my knee. Good news. Everything was ok. The ultrasound was negative. I am even cleared to begin training full time again. I'm excited. This is the best possible outcome.
I have learned valuable lessons from all of my injuries to always take the required time off to heal. Listen to your doctors and physical trainers. Never rush back from any injury because you will do more damage to the injured part of your body and may even cause an injury elsewhere because your body is overcompensating. So take your time. As much time as you need. The game will always be there. With our advancements in football training systems you can get back to peak performance in 3 months as well. All of this means that when you do go down injured because it happens to all of us - heal - recover - take your time coming back. Your career is in your hands when you are injured. It's the most frustrating thing in the world to have the thing you love the most, what your best at, and how you planned to pay the bills taken away because of an injury. Stay mentally strong to not play injured and not do any further damage.
